Stand Holder
How should I put up a mail box holder here?
My mailbox is mounted on a 1 x 6, on a 2 x 8 teed to a telephone pole along with 6 other mailboxes mounted on that 2 x 8. The telephone pole has rotted. I am thinking about using a 6 x 6 pressure treated pole to mount the 2 x 8 that holds all the mail boxes. If I dig out the remains of the old telephone pole and put a 6 x 6 in the hole there and place crushed rock around it to stand it straight up would that be enough perhaps with some diagonals? Any thoughts on this? Ground is wet a lot.
you should use 2 poles dig the poles in the ground about 42 inches and put a bag of concrete in each hole 60# bag per pole placing both poles in the ground on the concrete(just bust the bag open and dump in the hole with 2 gallons of water per bag)plumb up each pole and then fill in the hole around the pole with dirt get 2- 2x6s install them horizontally and level 1 in the front of the poles and 1in the rear of the poles and this will hold things stable level and plumb now simply install the mail boxes across the top of the 2x6s cute simple and sturdy if youd like to spend an extra 45min and 25 more dollars you can dress it up with some vinyl lattice on the bottom (appearance only /adds no strength) I suggest you fasten it together with screws if you have a screw gun /use your longest level available to level and plumb the poles and 2x6s now if you can get 14 or 16ft 6x6s and 2x6s you will only need to purchase one of each and cut them if half/be sure to use pressure treated lumber and check with your local post office and see what the regulations are in that area for height of the mail boxes to assure getting the proper length of pole and not doing this 2 times.
